Currently, we are in the midst of storm “Emma” well, call it what you like, its blooming cold! Whilst we all fire up the log burners or turn the thermostat up on the boiler, Spare a thought for the wild birds that frequent the garden. The main form of warmth for them is a good nest in a draughty bush, they’re food source? berries and insects.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
A few simple things we can do. The most basic of all, make sure there is fresh, unfrozen water available. make or if you need to, buy some fat balls and hang them up, its a great source of protein and nutrients for these lovely little birds. Have a dog? groom them and pop the fur outside for the birds, they will appreciate it to build nests.
Ok, its a bit of a no-brainer, I, and I’m sure You, will feel great knowing that a few simple things have stopped these glorious birds from suffering. I’m not a tree hugger by any means but I do think the simple garden songbirds are deserving of a little help during the cold snaps. Don’t you?
